On Saturday, April 30th at 4 PM at St. Casimir Church on Youngstown’s north side we are coordinating with the Diocese of Youngstown to host a celebration mass and vigil in celebration of this event. Following mass, thanks to underwriting from Kinnick Funeral Homes, there will be a reception with Polish food and drink (perhaps even featuring Karol Wojtyła’s favorite dessert Kremówka papieska). After eating, we are screening of the recently released Newt & Callista Gingrich film Nine Days that Changed the World. This documentary tells the story of Pope John Paul II’s historic nine-day pilgrimage to Poland in June 1979. It story of human liberation-especially pertinent during this time of turmoil in Libya and other Middle Eastern countries-reveals the extraordinary power of John Paul II’s worldwide message of freedom through faith.
