The air at Ostatki 2011 was heavy with the sound of martini shakers and clinking glasses. The Vesica Vodka Vodka Cocktail Contest drew five pre-registered contestants and one “surprise” last-minute entrant. Lisa Lotze took home the crown with her interestingly named drink Drowning the Winter Witch. It referenced the annual Polish ceremony meant to bring about an end to winter of the same name. It was unanimous choice of our four “celebrities about town” judges pictured above: Todd Franko Clarke Johnson, Natalie Lariccia and Tyler Clark. They commented on how great all of the competitors’ entries were, but Lisa’s won hands down based on originality of name, appearance, taste and creativity. "There is only one thing worse than Auschwitz itself…and that is if the world forgets there was such a place"
These words of a camp survivor are even more poignant years after the 1945 liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. With that in mind, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation is hoping to use a similar social media campaign to help preserve the death camps as a piece of our history. Learn more about "Intervene Now!" campaign here and at least do your part by taking the pledge to say you recognize "what happened, what happens and what could happen again."
